Going to Vegas for the weekend

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I decided it's time to take a much needed vacation, so my wife and I are leaving the kids with grandma and flying to Vegas for the weekend.

This will be my first time in Vegas, and I am interested to see if you guys have any ideas on attractions that I should go see.

Anyone been there and know of something that I simply should not miss out on? Not the usual stuff like gambling, but some really good once in a lifetime experiences.

Just curious as to what I simply cannot miss out on.

Cheers,

-Justin

I went to Vegas in 1999 when the Hotel Paris Las Vegas just opened. I went there with my US employer (I am Swedish), a big IT company and those that went there was a small group of consultants, we were about 250 ppl coming in from all over the world.

The top mgmt boss of that group welcomed us by saying; "Welcome to the capital of weirdness". So true.

I got a new chance in 2001a and also to bring my wife, but I decided to bail out on that one, I was actually quite fed up with it although it was really interesting.

Well, of course much has happened since 1999 but the most memorable place there was the Venitian Palace. We were about to go and get some dinner one evening and we were instructed to go there. Apart from having italian gondols (small boats that are driven by hand by a guy standing at the back of the boat) that went around in a canal around the casino (if I remember it correctly), it just looked like any casino. We finally found the escalator to the second floor and there a very light, huge room showed up. It was a scaled down copy of the Venetian square called the Marcus Square AND what did we find there, on the second floor? YES, gondols. Pretty hilarious!

I never tried the huge Las Vegas rollercoaster, but some friends did. It's a biggie! Go for it if you dare. :)

As long as you stay off the gambling you can have a really interesting time in Las Vegas quite cheap (at least back in 1999 :) ). If you gamble you WILL lose and the time you spend there will probably not feel as good as it could have.

Have fun!

Walk through the bellagio very nice.. as well as watch there water display outside. amazing.

Also might check out the Crazy Horse :)

Yeah, I have heard the water display is quite amazing. Already have a couple of activities in mind as I am not a very big gambler.

Going to do in door sky-diving for sure, and maybe a helicopter ride over the strip at night. (the wife's idea).

Also plan on hitting up a couple of the aquariums like the shark reef. I have always been fascinated with the ocean, and all of the weird creatures in it.

Never heard of the crazy horse, I will definitely check into it though...

I don't want to confuse you. the Crazy Horse might not be some place you want to take the wife.

Nah... She's pretty open-minded. Maybe I'll just tell her that it's considered art in Paris B).

Also my first time flying, anybody know if they have wifi on the plane. Hopefully they do so I will have something to do on my 6 hour flight.

I've always tethered by cell phone to my laptop on flights for internet.

Just have to check with the airlines your traveling.

normally there might be a small fee for access.

Capital of weirdness? I have heard some pretty crazy stories from my friends, so this is probably true.

Gonna check out the Venitian if it's still around. Not to big on roller-coasters but I hear there's a pretty cool one on top of the Stratosphere (don't plan on riding it though).

Not really big on gambling, but you can bet that I will hit up the craps table for a little while :D

Keep the suggestions coming guys...

Hi Justin

I spent a while in Vegas, but that was back in the early eighties. However, one thing that might not have changed much is the old original town of Henderson at the far end of the strip, I think it was where the casinos first started before 'the strip' was built. Excellent street food and restaurants there too, or at least was!

Enjoy you're time there,

Phil
