How to detect if site is mobile compatible

Hello,

Any tips of detecting if a website is mobile compatible? I am trying to come up with a footprint search or maybe redirect detection. Any tips?

You could set the user agent to iPhone and then navigate to the URL and see does it redirect. You could compare the source URL to the new URL to see if they are the same or not

That will only get so many though. My sites for example that I built that are mobile compatible scale down and don't redirect. I think you will find that with a lot of sites as well.

 

This is a tough one, you can for sure get some of them by watching for redirects you just wont get all of them.

Maybe look for media queries in the CSS that deal with 320 which is a standard size for mobile phones. I think 480 as well, I would Google that part for sure

I guess your question should be "if site is mobile friendly", since most of the sites are mobile compatible (they work, so I think that means that are compatible).

 

I think that the simplest way would be to look for horizontal scroll bar (in theory, haven't done that in UBot), and if that one exists this should mean that the site isn't mobile friendly (since mobile friendly sites don't have horizontal scroll bar).
