Hello - I can't seem to get these answers (after waiting 3 weeks) from UBot Support, so I hope someone here can help me...

 

Ideally I would like to be able to develop a plugin DLL in .NET to contain all my "helper functions" I use across my UBot projects.  This .NET DLL would contain things like a) reading/writing from a common XML config file, B) interacting with our remote servers for logging, c) misc string and data manipulation functions, d) complex decision logic.  Some of these functions are trivial at the .NET level, but are difficult in UBot scripting.

 

One of the main reasons for wanting to do this is to be able to share the compiled DLL's among dozens of compiled UBot projects, being developed by multiple developers.  Basically, the DLL plugin is simply a shared class library.

 

(For reasons I could go into later, this is not feasible or practical using "private bot banks".)

 

My questions are:

 

1) I've been told by UBot support that if I don't purchase a "plugin key", I will get a "nag screen" every time I run UBot Studio and reference the plugin. (see http://screencast.com/t/tYnLC0Jb for example from UBot).  My question is whether this "nag" prompt will prevent a compiled, automated and unattended Bot executable from running?  I.e. will it stop with a Nag prompt?  If anyone has experience with that and can answer that question, I would appreciate it.

 

2) I've been told by UBot support that I can purchase a "plugin key" for "around $100", or whatever UBot feels like charging based on what you tell them about what the plugin does.  However, my understanding is that by purchasing a plugin key this puts my DLL into the public domain at UBot Nation.  This is not anything that needs to be public - is not useful beyond my own projects.  I also don't want to attract attention to the bots I develop.  Can anyone confirm that once you purchase a "plugin key" your work is made public?  Or can that be opted out of? (I can't seem to get that answer from UBot Support).

 

So, in summary, I just want to leverage the capabilities of a .NET compiled DLL plugin as a shared class library among multiple UBot projects and UBot developers, without putting my DLL in the public domain.

 

Any guidance from experienced plugin developers would be sincerely appreciated.

From what I understand:

 

1. Yes, it will still run fine and you will get the nag screen when you try running it.

 

2. Just because Ubot rob you of money for the key, I don't think you HAVE to put the plugin out for everyone to use, However, at a guess the price will go up. I am not a plugin maker but I know quite a few are saying that key prices are getting stupidly high.

if you purchase a plugin key , it is up to you to do whatever you want with it , you can even keep it private to you !

and for the keys fees , everyone thinks that its very high not just me or malefic !

so if you really need the plugin , i would invest in it and buy a key from them !

aren't plugin keys for free share or private use free, my understanding is plugin keys were only chargeable if you plan to sell the plugin to other ubot users.

What about distributing the plugin for free?

 

I recently learned to make plugins and am disappointed to know that i would have to pay for developing plugins(not even sure that i would make 100$ back).

 

Is it fine to distribute for free?

If you intend to distribute it for free , then you can get a free key for that , you just have to request a free plugin key from support !

You pay for the keys only when you intend to sell the plugins !
